The key to open Systems would seem to be attempts to ensure that systems can interoperate at all levels.

In many cases, there is a middleware solution which can overcome fundamental system or application differences.

Many organisations have spent considerable resources migrating from a proprietary environment to one that is more open.

When considering the long term usage of applications, operating. Systems and other software, it is important to try and ensure that systems and their software components are portable.

Developments in scaleable operating systems have helped to provide some degree of future-proofing for system developers and implementers.

You should provide explanations of the terms. Examples of specific hardware or
ware products wifl probably not be particularly useful.

Criteria:

A third class answer (40, 45) Offers explanations with examples that show some understanding of at least 4 of the terms and their relevance with some attempt to explain the others.
A lower second answer (50, 55) is significantly better than a third class answer but does not fully meet the criteria for an upper second answer.
An upper second answer (60, 65) Explain all the terms clean with examples. Explanations also show the inter-relationship between some of the terms
A first class answer (70-100) meets all the criteria for an upper second answer and demonstrates significant critical innovative and/or creative understanding of the problem environment
